Victorian Large Hand Coloured Engraving ' The First Steeple Chase On Record'
This is a large, framed, (23 1/4" x 19 1/4") genuine old hand coloured engraving dating I'd say to the mid Victorian period....1850 - 60. The Engraver is noted as...J.HARRIS and the Artist...H. AIKEN Underneath the title is written... 'IPSWICH, The Watering - Place Behind The Barracks'. There is also considerable written historical information at the base of the engraving. A fabulous old piece for those who love the Sport of Kings or who are interested in the history of Steeple Chasing or horse riding in general. There is some minor foxing / age spotting ...this can be treated and for such a beautiful engraving it would be well worth having this professionally done and a new mat put in as well. One of a pair, the other being listed separately.
