Focke-Wulf Fw 190A "Butcher Bird" Luftwaffe 9./JG 2 Richtofen, France. Major Siegfried Schnell. Formidable Fw 190 with a fierce armament package that earned it the nickname "Butcher Bird". Schnell scored his first victory in May 1940, had amassed 20 victories by November, and shot down 9 Spitfires in just 2 days in July 1941 to bring up 45 victories. In August 1942 he shot down five Spitfires to reach his 70th victory, making him an "ace-in-a-day" for the second time. Schnell had 93 victories when he was KIA in February 1944.
