Large Mere

Beautiful hand carved wooden mere.

As a general rule, the rangatira (chief) carried the mere, or short club. The mere was carried thrust into the girdle of the piupiu, or in a special war belt. The common characteristic of the mere is a flat broad blade wit ha rounded end made sharp enough to split the skill of a man or sauce deadly injury to the neck or ribs.

This mere is purely ornamental and has intricately carved designs on one side.
